Outdoor Learning

‘Outdoor learning experiences are often remembered for a lifetime.  Integrating learning and outdoor experiences, whether through play in the immediate grounds or adventures further a field, provides relevance and depth to the curriculum in ways that are difficult to achieve indoors.’

(Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning, Learning and Teaching Scotland, 2010:6)

'Learning outdoors encourages a child’s engagement with his immediate environment, promoting natural curiosity and social interaction which aids the development of language skills, enabling the child/ren to become effective contributors of their learning.'
Miss Alison Love (2011)

'The outdoor environment is an extension to the Nursery as well as a means of extending the children’s learning experiences in an area where they were perhaps free to display their individual interests and learning styles.'

Miss Alison Love (2011)

“Playing is learning, and outdoor play opens up a vast array of learning experiences”
